"Arise, shine, for your light has come."
-- Isaiah 60: 1
Are you an early bird who loves to start your day the most positive way possible - praising God in song and prayer? Then come "rise and shine" with us at Atonement. Sundays at 8:30 a.m. from December through May we offer this 45 minute worship service with a mix of new and old songs. Each service features a brief message, prayers and Holy Communion. There is no printed bulletin for the service, but slides with words and directions are projected on screens.
How should you dress for worship?
Casual attire is appropriate for all our worship services here at Atonement! Come as you are and come often!
The music for the Rise & Shine service is provided by our Praise Band. You may hear some old folk songs, traditional hymns, or even current Christian radio hits being sung and played.
Children in worship
Children are loved and valued at Atonement, and we welcome them in all worship services. Activity bags are available for smaller children with crayons, coloring pages, and games.
For those times when your child gets restless, you are welcome to use the comfort room. When you exit the worship space, just down the hall to the right you'll find the comfort room. It has a wide picture window that looks into the sanctuary, with the sound piped in so that your are still part of worship. Ask one of the greeters, and they will be happy to show you where the comfort room is.
Holy communion is the sharing of bread and wine in the name of Jesus Christ. He promised that he would be present with us in this meal, and that his forgiveness and the Holy Spirit are available to those who share it. All who trust Jesus as their Savior and believe he is truly present with us in Holy Communion are welcome to receive it here at Atonement.
During the service, you will have time to prepare for communion by offering silent prayer, reflecting on God's great love for you and the gift of forgiveness of sins. You may also along to the music.
At the Rise & Shine service, we use "communion wafers" for bread and offer a choice of wine or grape juice. Gluten free wafers are also available. We use the method called "intinction," meaning that when you come up and receive the wafer, you move to the person holding the cup and dip the wafer in the wine or grape juice before eating it.
If your children regularly take communion, they are welcome to take it at Atonement. You may prefer to wait until they have taken our first communion class (which we offer in the pre-Easter season every year). We generally recommend that children take the class before fourth grade. Feel free to talk to the pastor if you feel your child is ready to begin taking communion.
