WE WELCOME NEW INTERN BRETT HILL

and his wife SUSAN!

BRETT BEGINS WITH US ON SUNDAY, AUGUST 25

With financial assistance from Luther Seminary in St. Paul Minnesota and the Florida-Bahamas Synod, we are able to host Brett Hill for his internship year here at Atonement Lutheran Church. We are excited to welcome Brett "on board" as he shares in our ministry and learns pastoral skills, while bringing along his own experiences and gifts.

Brett and Susan Hill are excited to be joining the Atonement Lutheran Church family. Thank you so much for inviting us into fellowship and welcoming us into your community!

Brett and Susan live in Odessa, Florida. They have a blended family of three adult boys—Joshua (34) and his wife Cassy, Henry (24), and Freddie (22)—two grandchildren, two German Shepherds, seven cats, and a fish.

Susan was born in rural Mississippi and raised in North Carolina. She comes from a family of four children. Susan joined the U.S. Army in 1988. She served as a combat medic and a nurse. Susan is a veteran of the war in Iraq. She retired from the Army in 2008. She worked in management for many years. Susan developed signs of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in 2014. She has been living with the disease ever since. Susan is a person of deep Christian faith.

Brett was born in Akron, Ohio, and raised in Kent, Ohio. He comes from a family of five children. Brett joined the U.S. Army in 1988. He served as a paratrooper, a combat medic, a flight medic, and a nurse. Brett is a veteran of the Gulf War. He served in numerous leadership positions during his time in the Army. Brett left the Army in 1997. After departing the Army, Brett worked as a registered nurse. His areas of nursing practice were emergency, critical-care, trauma, neurosurgery, and neurotrauma. He also worked in nursing management and process improvement.

Brett first heard the Spirit calling him to ministry in 2021. He was developing the Advocacy Team at All Saints Lutheran Church in Lutz while simultaneously completing the training program to be a synodical deacon. Brett is now a senior at Luther Seminary in St. Paul, MN. His particular areas of interest are liberation theology, justice ministries, and the theology of the cross. He celebrates God’s love, grace, and mercy. Brett feels called to share the gospel message and the love of Jesus Christ with the world. He is humbled to be called to serve as vicar at Atonement Lutheran. He is excited to connect with and learn from you all.
