Hello,
My name is Jocelyn Phipps and I am a Community Engagement Coordinator for the non-profit Homes For Our Troops. Homes For Our Troops is a privately funded 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization that builds and donates specially adapted, custom homes nationwide for severely injured post 9/11 Veterans. I am reaching out because we have an event coming up near you!
Veterans in our program choose where they want to build their forever home and one of our veterans chose Wesley Chapel, FL!
On April 4, 2010, during his first deployment, Master Sergeant Chris Blauvelt was on a patrol in Laghman Province in Afghanistan with the 1st Battalion, 102nd Infantry Regiment, 42nd Infantry Division, when an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated under his vehicle. The blast caused the traumatic amputation of his right leg, spinal fractures, a fractured pelvis, and a traumatic brain injury (TBI). He was treated in Afghanistan before being transported to Landstuhl, Germany, and then Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, D.C. After medically retiring in 2012, Christopher enjoys spending time with his wife Bernadette and their five children.
Now, as the building of his new adapted home begins the final stages of construction, Homes For Our Troops will be hosting a Volunteer Day. At this event, community members will be able to directly contribute to the home build by helping us with the landscape!
I am reaching out to you to invite you to attend this event, as well as ask for your assistance spreading the word. We want every member of the community to join us for this event on June 29th! The location will be 6674 Nine Iron Court, Wesley Chapel, FL 33544. Check-in will be at 8:30am and we will begin landscaping at 9:00am. There will also be T-shirts and a light lunch provided. To register or learn more about MSG Blauvelt/ Homes For Our Troops, you can visit: www.hfotusa.org/Blauvelt
Please feel free to reach out with any questions, or if you are interested in helping with set-up as well!
Best,
Jocelyn Phipps
